 FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) Transplant

Hair Transplantation Surgery is done by two techniques age old and time tested FUT or strip method and the newer evolving technique is FUE. The essential difference in between these two techniques is collection of the hair follicles that is harvesting.

UE is done by local anaesthesia using xylocane solution. Very small punches varying from 0.5mm to 1.0mm of different s sizes are used. This punches are attached either manual handle or electrically driven micro motor. Punch size depends on numbers of hair roots per follicles. In FUE there is no need of stich so it is also called stich less technique of hair transplantation. The main advantage is that hair can be collected from scalp or any other body part. After collection small punch heals normally by 2-4 weeks but in ‘Type V’ skin that is Indian skin there may be some hypertrophic punch marks left. There is a documented chance to injury to follicles which may range 10-30%. But main advantages are-

  1. Pain is less
  2. Stitch less technique
  3. Normally no visible scar

Insertion of collected roots in the recipient area is both in FUE & FUT method post-operative care and results are similar.
