Debasree started her career as a child dancer
and performed numerous shows in West Bengal and outside in the
name of RUMKI.
Debasree came into filmdom as a child artist in the film "KUHELI"
directed by Shri Tarun Majumder.
After a successful career as a child artist, she reappeared as
'Debasree Roy'
in the film 'DADAR KIRTI',
since then she has never looked back and has acted in more than
100 films,
not only in Bengali but other Indian languages including Hindi,
Oriya, Tamil, Malayalam & English.
Among the important ones include '36
CHOWRINGHEE LANE', by
Aparna Sen which had won an International
Film Award. Debasree has won more
than 40 Best Actress awards.
She has been also awarded from B.F.J.A,
Calcutta and National Unity Awards
for her contribution in films. In
1994, she got the National Award for Best Acress for the film
'UNISHE APRIL'. Debasree's career
as a T. V.
artist began with the serialisation of Sarat
Chandra's "DENA PAONA",
she achieved national fame as Satyavati
in MAHA BAHARATA. As Jyotirani
in NAGARPARER ROOP NAGAR she established
herself as one of the finest actress of the" present genere.
But her love for dancing never expired, this NATARAJ GROUP was
formed by her. The Group's first venture 'BICHITRO' has been a
runaway success for the past 2 years. Her 'BICHITRO'
got popular with the audiences as "Regional
Folk Dances of India". Her maiden
venture into the Tagorean Dance Culture is with the presentation
of BASABDUTTA-a
concept consisting of dances and songs based on the poets poem
'ABHISAR'.
Debasree's exquisit style of dancing has impressed the audience
not only in India but also in Europe.
