Sri
Nitish Biswas is a living legend of Bengal. He is a
doyen in Dalit and Progressive literature and research on such
literary work. His Research and Bio-Graphical work on Ambedkar
is widely praised. He is a renowned social worker. He was born
on 15th March, 1952. He stood 1st in B.A. (Honours) with Medal
achievement and 2nd in M.A. His father Late Nagendra Nath Biswas
was a Teacher and Mother Smt. Haridasi Biswas is a Social Worker.
His wife Smt. Bithika Biswas is a Teacher of Central School. Professionally,
Sri Biswas is the Joint Registrar of Calcutta University. He is
also a famous researcher on life & literature of Bengali writer
Somen Chanda and Adwaita Malla- Barman. He is the editor of India’s
one of the best compilation on Dalit Literature. He contributed
largely on life & work of Ambedkar. He is the editor of one
of the best research magazine in Bengali, “AIKATAN
GAVESHANA PATRA” and associate with “Uttaran”
and “Pathasanket” for the study and research on Bengali
language,Dalit Literature & Social justic since 1972.
He has lead the survey works and movements for the Bangalies &
Bengali refugees throughout India. For the cause he founded the
organization named “SAHAMARMI”. He
was awarded ‘Adwaita Mallabarman puraskar 2005’ by
the Tripura Government for “Aikatan”, the magazine
edited by him. He achieved the “Samayer Jiyan Kathi Award”
in 2004 for social work, “Manjush Dasgupta Best Essayist
Award 2006” for Essays and research, “Dwip Bangla”
honour for Bengali Dalit litarature. He was also honoured as ‘Dalit
Bandhu’ for social work in 2007 by the students of Viswabharati
University.He was awarded “Atandra Path Prabandha o Gabeshana
Puraskar” as the best essayist in Bengali literature for
2008. He has participated in many important national and international
seminars and propagated his thoughts throughout the nation.
He undertook a lot of developmental programmes for Dalit &
Minorities students of Calcutta University. He is the founder
General secretary of “Dalit Samannay Samiti”. Under
the Umbrella of this organization, various kinds of development
programmes have been undertaken & different types of professional
and job oriented courses have been conducted under his supervision.
