About Goutam

Goutam Upadhyay

The Word ‘Upadhyay’ means teacher or instructor. Sri Goutam Upadhyay is a teacher par excellence. Himself, a trained dancer and choreographer, Goutam had been a faculty member of the Ananda Shankar Centre for Performing Arts from 1988 to 2011.

Besides Bharatnatyam, Goutam has established himself as an accomplished ‘Chhau’ Dancer who experiments with Mayurbhanj, Seraikella and Purulia Form. The soft-spoken teacher simply lets his innovations flow into the receptive minds of his students. ‘SRIJAK’, a brainchild of Goutam, is not merely a school of dance and music; it actually bears testimony to the passion, dedication and love with which he embraces his pupils through his creativity.

Goutam’s repute both as a dancer and choreographer has already spread over the entire Indian Subcontinent. All his students look upon him in revered gratitude and love. But Goutam is a creator of a larger vision for to spread his creativity in Dance across the Globe.

As a part of the Ananda Shankar Dance Troupe, Sri Upadhyay has travelled far and wide. He has performed in the USA, Russia and Quatar. He has also assisted the renowned dance exponent, Smt Tanushree Shankar, in many of her creative compositions at various National-level Youth and Folk festivals, as well as in the National Games.
