His
Educational Qualification – National Scholar, B.Sc. (Hons.) (Presidency
College), B. Com (Distinction), B.A., LL.B. (Calcutta University), M.A. in
vocal music (1st Class) (Rabindra Bharati University).
His
Musical Career – Since childhood, music is part and parcel of Abir’s life.
In school and college, no cultural programmes had gone without participation of
Abir. Since 1980, methodical training started in the keen guidance of masters.
Vocal classical training for 11 years was under the legendry Guru Dr. Jamini
Ganguly. Abir has still been continuing his learner role in Light Songs including
Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, etc. under careful supervision of renowned
masters like Abhijit Banerjee, Sukumar Mitra, Dr. Srikumar Chatterjee, and
others.
He
has performed vocal recital in numerous occasions throughout West Bengal, many
provinces of India, organised by Government as well as private organisations.
While foreign country is concerned, Abir was honoured to get the invitation
from Bangladesh Government and was appreciated there for his vocal performance.
Since
1990, the released cassettes of Abir are, JIBANER GAAN (Inreco), CHIRO-NUTAN (Uphonic),
SURER AKASHEY AKMUTHO ABIR (Raga), KALI AAMAR HAO GO KALA (Beethoven,
Devotional), AABAR ABIR (Trio Cassettes), and SURER AKASHEY (Geetanjali). The
first Rabindra Sangeet cassette of Abir is under process and soon to be
released.
As
remarkable awards, Abir has already achieved “RABIN MAZUMDAR MEMORIAL AWARD”
in 2000 and “CHITRACHARYA PRAMOTHESH BARUA AWARD” in 2001, given by
Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal. Abir is equally capable of singing Bengali and
Hindi melodies to their finest representation. He usually sings all types of
Bengali songs such as Rabindra Sangeet, Modern, Patriotic, Devotional etc. and
tries to amalgamate the style of Hemanta Mukherjee with that of his own.
