Khagesh Dev Burman hails from the Royal Family of Tripura & shares the same heritage as legendary S.D. Burman. The Royal family of Tripura was not only an ardent patron of art, literature and culture but they themselves also were artists of high calibre who contributed immensely in these fields. It is said that artistic genius is an inborn quality of the Tripurees. Born in such a renowned & cultured family in the year 1940, 14th December in Agartala, the capital city of Tripura, he was brought up in an environment conducive to art & literature.
Entered the literary arena in 50’s of 20th century. His poems and short stories were published in regular interval in various literary magazines from 1955. Because of his literary activities, he earned name as a writer & considered a force to reckon with in Tripura in his teens. He was the pioneer who brought all the poets of Tripura together & under his able editorship a book named “Prantik” (Collection of Poems) was published in the year 1962.
M.A. in political Science from Calcutta University, He joined Indian Revenue Service through All India Civil Services Examination & retired as Commissioner of Income Tax. Due to unsurmountable circumstances and bureaucratic compulsion he stopped writings for several years. Occasionally, some sporadic writings although were published in those years could hardly satisfy him. The pain of not writing persisted & ultimately he joined the bandwagon of writers. After retirement started writing fullfledgedly with intention to regain the valuable time already lost. Single handedly, he published a bimonthly literary magazine “Prantik Shahitya Patra”. The magazine of repute is in popular demand in India, especially among the intellectuals of West Bengal & North-East India.
He was awarded “Sachin Samman” by Govt of Tripura for his book “Sachin Kartar Ganer Bhuban”. The world right of this book has been taken up by Penguin India.
