Sanjoy Ghosh – Born 1958 in Kolkata
“If life were a medium, Sanjoy Ghosh is perhaps one of the most talented artists.

When he was live, he lost the use of his hands and feet. Two years later he recovered only to find that his right arm was paralyzed for ever.

It did not matter to Sanjoy. Sitting at the feet of Mrinmoy Mukherjee in Kolkata, the 12 years old knew he had his calling “PAINTINGS”!

At 18, his first solo exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata. Painted a picture of a boy, for whom disability was just a distraction, no more no less.

His works was described by critics as poignant without any rage and bitterness and with a sensitivity that reminded one of the greats like Ram Kinkar Baij and Gopal Ghosh.

His paintings are haunted by space, emotional and physical. By the need to fill the blanks and margins and sometimes to leave them unfilled. They are about the lightness of innocence and at the same time its crushing burden. And yet, above all this, if there is one of them is one theme that ties them all together, is the vindication of the life force.

He is one of the handfuls from India whose works are registered with VSA Arts in USA – Washington D. C.

Until date Sanjoy has had 4 solo (Two in – Academy of Fine Arts and One at Swabhumi and last at Travancore Palace, New Delhi. 7 group shows and continues to paint.

Sanjoy is the first Indian artist whose works has been used by a European Wine Company (Vin Opera from Italy) in their Art Labels. In Europe, the finest Companies have used paintings of legends like Picasso, Dali, Chagall, Sano De Pietro ……………… earlier.”
