I found an outlet in my life, that is, theatre when I met my hubby Indrashis Laharry, renowned playwright and screenplaywright of our hometown.
Being a neice of Late Kumar Roy, director and actor of a legendary theatre group, “Baharupee”, I feel myself honoured.
My career as an actor started with the launching of the stage production “Dristinkanya” by Chenamukh, a leading theatre group in the city way back 1992. Stalwarts like Anashua Majumdar, Arijit Guha & Indrashis Laharry were associated with the play. Other sterling production followed like “Jalojyanto,” and “Lajja tirtho” where I had the rare opportunity of rendering meaty and meaningful roles. Apart from chenamukh I have worked with Gandhar, yet mother leading theatre group of Kolkata in their major productions.
I am quite fortunate that I got two eminent directors in my stage career. One was Chandan Sen (Actor & Director) and the other was Meghnad Bhattacharya.
The current production “Kachher Manush” starring Debshankar Haldar and Vijoy Lakshmi Barman is a booming hit and in it I played a very significant cameo.
Alongwith theatre I have been sharing small screen and big screen space from 1993 till date. I debuted with ‘Grohon’, the first Bengali serial launched by Alpha Bangla starring Arjun Chakraborty and Leboni
Sarkar and thereafter came the mega-serials, like ‘Kanakanjali’, ‘Akashchhoa’, ‘Belagaeshe’, ‘Jabanbondi’, and many others. I played a very intricate role of an oncologist in the serial, ‘Ek Akasher niche’ by Ravi Ojha.
A main stream film shared with Mithun Chakraborty (Tiger Dir. By Swapan Saha) has been a memorable experience.
I shared in a big screen with Rati Agnihotri, named “Aainate” directed by Dulal Dey. I most cherish is a film by Shekhar Das called “Manulbonir Sereng” starring Rupa Ganguli and Sabyasachi Chakraborty. I played in an important role in the movie, ‘Thikana Raajpath”.
In the last two years, I have also performed jatra groups as a first lead heroine.
I have never been strategical. I just grab those chances which have come normally my way. |
