Started singing at the age of 8 years under guidance of my mother. In July, 1962, obtained the Rabindra Sangeet Diploma with Distinction Marks from DAKSHINEE under training and guidance of Late Shuvo Guhathakurta. Also had special training under direct care of Smt. Suchitra Mitra and Sri Subhash Chowdhury. 

Took special training in Atulprasadi, Dwijendra Geeti, Rajnikanta, Devotional and songs of Dilip Kumar Roy from Late Manju Gupta, Late Pahari Sanyal and Sri Dilip Roy. 
  
Started singing at the All India Radio, Calcutta in the year 1967. At present "TOP GRADE” singer of A.I.R. under four disciplines i.e. Rabindra Sangeet (since 1988), Atulprasadi (since 1986), Dwijendra Geeti and Rajnikanto (both since 1992). Also selected as a teacher to conduct Music Lessons on Rabindra Sangeet through A.I.R. Calcutta. 
  
Since 1976 rendering programmes at regular intervals at the Doordarshan Kendra, Calcutta on Rabindra Sangeet and Bengali Kabyageeto. In May 1991, participated in the National Network programmes of the Regional Music Concert through Doordarshan Kendra, Cuttack. In September, 1991 participated in Sangeet Sandhya programmes of Calcutta Doordarshan and in March, 1992, took part in the programmes of Glory of Songs at Thakur Bari (Tagore House). Also have made some Live performances through Calcutta Doordarshan Kendra’s National Network programmes. 
  
Had a few Gramophone Records (Discs) on Rabindra Sangeet, Atulprasadi and Dwijendra Geeti with HMV, POLYDOR, MUSIC INDIA and EMI (Columbia). First Record (Disc) on Atulprasadi was brought out by HMV in the year 1974, under training of Late Santosh Sen Gupta. 
  
Few Audio Cassettes on Rabindra Sangeet were brought out by SOUND WING in the year 1993 and 1994. In 1996 one on Bengali Kabyageeti by ASHA AUDIO and in 1997 one on Bengali Patriotic Songs by UD-SERIES. In the year 2000, a Cassette on Bengali Devotional Songs was brought out by HMV and a Compact Disc (CD) on Bengali Kabyageeti by BISWAS-RECORDS, USA and also have recorded couple of Bhajans. In 2005 a CD on Rabindra Sangeet released by HMV. 2006 Asha Audio released a CD of - Kabyageeti. In 2007, Gathani cassettes Co. released a CD of Rabindra Sangeet.

Was a teacher of Rabindra Sangeet at Rabirashmi Institution founded by Late Sagar Sen and Indira Sangeet Shikshayatan. Also conducting workshops at the West Bengal State Sangeet Academy over the years in Rabindra Sangeet and in Bengali Kabyageeti. 
  
In July, 1994 formed a Musical Group – SUROSHIKHA and have earned a position of approval in the All India Radio’s performing list under Rabindra Sangeet, Bengali Kabyageeti and Bhajans.

Present Occupation -

Also selected as a teacher to conduct Music Lessons in Rabindra Sangeet through A.I.R Calcutta. Served as a judge for the Music Audition Broad (MAB) of A.I.R, New Delhi and also served as a Member of Local Audition Committee of A.I.R., Calcutta. At present teaching and conducting weekly classes of Rabindra Sangeet and Bengali Kabya Sangeet at "Sri Aurobindo Bhavan" (Shakespeare Sarani) and also at “Baitanik” (Elgin Road). Also twice in every month conducting and teaching Bengali Kabya Sangeet classes through 'Gyan Vani' FM Radio channel under Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Open University. Also conducting workshops at the West Bengal State Sangeet Academy over the years in Rabindra Sangeet and in Bengali Kabya Sangeet.
