Srabani Banerjee (Nritya Praveen, Nritya Ratna (Gold Medalist) in Kathak, MA in Bengali and Philosophy) is a noted exponent of Kathak dance. Srabani, an artist of rare individuality, has an extensive knowledge of all aspects of Kathak. She has been trained under Smt. Sreelekha Mukherjee, Late Pandit Om Prakash Maharaj Ji and finally under the brilliant and vibrant exponent of Kathak, Pandit Vijay Shankar Ji. Through the years, with her creative nature, Srabani has developed an accomplished individual style, combining technical brilliance with delicate grace of Lucknow Gharana. Srabani has done several choreographies, such as "Night", "Samanyo Khoti” (based on Tagore's poem) and "Shaon" (along with Tagore's song). She has also created other works (such as "Maya", "The Rhythm of Life") in collaboration with Indian and foreign musicians. Srabani is the founder-director of Sura Nirjharini, a reputed music and dance school of Kolkata. "Sura Nirjharini" has imparted training to several students who are now established performers in their own rights. She is an examiner of Sarba Bharatiya Sangeet and Sanskriti Parishad.
