Dr.
Tanya Das was born in the family of Dr. Nilmadhab Haldar,
the family physician of Viswakabi Rabindranath Tagore. Parents
- Prof. Debajyoti Das and Prof. Arati Das. The family atmosphere
generated Tanya's love for Rabindrasangeet from very childhood.
Dr. Das took her first lessons
in music from her mother. After that, she got training in
Indian classical music (vocal) from Mrs. Mira Datta Ray and
in Rabindrasangeet from Dr. Srikumar Chattopadhyay and Sri
Subhash Chowdhuri. Now she is taking further training under
the supervision of Sri Rajeswar Bhattacharya. Tanya
is one of the leading Rabindrasangeet artistes of her
generation and is the Director of the well-known cultural
troupe "Anantya Silpi Goshthi". She has several
cassettes and CDs in her credit and has also directed
two cassettes. Tanya has received very good press coverages
all throughout her music carrier. She performs extensively
not only in Kolkata but also in other parts of India.
Tanya is a regular Rabindrasangeet artiste in functions
organized by Govt. of West Bengal as well as in Banga
Sanskriti Utsav, Bangla
Sageet Mela etc.
She
regularly visits USA and Canada where she performs Rabindrasangeet
in different states and has won critical acclaim. Moreover, she is a popular artiste
in most of the TV channels in Kolkata and is a playback
singer in several TV serials. Dr.
Tanya Das is a scientist at Bose Institute, Kolkata
and her field of research is cancer therapy. She has
received National Young Woman Bioscientist Award of
Govt. of India in 2004 for her outstanding contribution
in Cancer therapy. Tanya has also received Seva Samman
award in 2005 in appreciation of her contribution both
in science and culture. According to her - Rabindrasangeet
is always her inspiration even in her scientific endeavours.
