The Early Years:
Ruprekha Banerjee was born on 28th July 1984 in Bongaon, Dist: Noth 24 Parganas,West Bengal, India, to bengali parents, Shri. Pradip Kr. Banerjee and Smt. Kabita Banerjee. She spent her first three months of her life in her birth place in West Bengal, then she moved to a place called Agarpara, Kolkata, where her father, who is a Business Man. She has spent first eighteen teen years of formative part of her life there and completed her schooling up to Tenghth Standard, in Ramkrishna Mission, Barack pore and then 12th Standard from Ariyadaha Sarbamangala Vidyapith and then VidyaSagar College-Kolkata with Zoology Hons. |

Initiation of the Musical Odyssey:
Life at Agarpara was simple. There used to be cultural programs and social gatherings very often. Her Grandfather is a singer and both of her parents are very much culturally inclined and they were very much involved with all those cultural activities. During those activities, as a small child she picked up her first lessons of music. She used to hum the same songs with her immature words whatever her Grandfather sang during rehearsals. It is during those days her potentials of singing was discovered by her Grandfather.
At the age of 6, she started learning music, mainly Rabindra Sangget, from her first Guru – her Grandfather. She gave her first stage performance at their club’s annual function. At the age of 7, she started getting formal training in Hindustani Classical Music. She learnt Classical Hindustani Music from Sangeeta Das of Agarpara, Neela Gowsami up to age of 10, Anju Chakraborty upto age of 16, She learnt Light Clasical Hindustan Music from Pandit Arun Bhaduri and thereafter, She got her intial exposure to Bengali film background songs and Bengali serial title song. She received training in playback singing from Legendary Bharat Ratna Pandit Late Bhimsen Joshi’s student Maloy Banerjee at later stage at Mumbai after shifting to Mumbai. She continued her training in Classical Hindustani Music with Late Mira Bandhopadhya’s student Kanika Mitra. |

In Pursuit of her Dreams:
In year 2005 she moved to Mumbai with her family when she crown winner of “Fame Gurukul ”. The singer has won and has been nominated for a number of awards. She won the “Fame Gurukul” Award for Most Promising reality show for Mast and also won a “Uttam Kumar” Award and won award of the “Sera Bengali-2006”. She won “Sananda Adittiya” Award, Best Rising Singer Award 2012 (Kalakar Award), Radio Mirchhi Best Album 2012 “Bondhu Hobe” Nomination also. |
