An Economist by specialization Dr.Animesh Halder served Calcutta Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) for more than 27 years. Retired from CMDA as Director (Socio-Economic Planning, Appraisal, Monitoring and Evaluation) on 30 April, 2002. During this period he conducted several socio-economic studies (as detailed below) including the study on urban poverty, more particularly, the life style of Pavement Dwellers and Slum Dwellers in Calcutta. Moreover, he had the opportunity of getting involved in poverty alleviation programmes, like, Small Scale Enterprise Programme (SSEP) funded by World Bank and Calcutta Slum Improvement Programme (CSIP) funded by DFID.
Served as Lecturer in Economics at different colleges (including Shibpur Engineering College now University ) of Calcutta University for about three years.
Served as Academic Counsellor (Managerial Economics and Business Environment) - Indira Gandhi Open University, at two study centers in Calcutta for three years.
