Mandira Chakraborty's inclination towards dance was marked by her mother Smt. Anima Chakraborty, who was not only the main inspiration but also the support.She started taking her dance lesson from the tender age of five years.She was blessed to get her dance lesson from the different classical dance maestroes.

Initally Anup Sankar Adhikary started to train her. Mandira learned mainly Katthak & other Classical from him till her age of twenty years. Next to Shri Adhikary she came in touch with Kanai Majumdar who taught her mainly the art of Choreography based on classical and folk dance. She also got in touch with Gyan Prakashan then she was doing her M.A in Rabindra Bharati. Her keenness to know Classical Dance her made her to come nearer with some other Dance Gurus such as Devek Mondru - Kuchipuri, Rabindrik from Ashit Chatterjee & Gyatri Chatterjee, Folk from the legendry Batu Pal, Kathak - Jaipur Gharana from Susmita Misra, Bharat Natyam from Sathi Devi Nayer & Oddisi from the great dance maestro Kalucharan Mahapatra & Sanjukta Panigrahi.

Mandira Chakraborty has also completed her M.A. in Bharatnatyam in Rabindra Bharati University & also sixth year Kathak, Bharatnattyam, Manipuri from Allahabad University.

In the due course her profeciency on almost all classical dance inspired her to come up with a dance school named Dum Dum Sangeetam established from the year 1981, which is now a day earned a great name and fame as a classical dance institute of North Kolkata from where many national & international along with local students are getting the oppertunity to learn classical dance of India.
