Malabika Das had the privilege of being groomed by the doyen of Bengali lokgeeti ( folk songs) Shri Nirmalendu Choudhury and Shri Amar Pal. She also learnt Nazrul geeti by Late Biman Mukopadhyay. A senior artiste of AIR and Doordarshan she has eight VCDs, five cds and fourteen cassettes to her credit.
In 1997 in Bangladesh she was the proud recipient of "Sher E-Bangla Jatiyo Swarnapadak" for lokgeeti. In 1998 the former Sherrif of Kolkata Shri Sunil Tagore awarded her Indira Gandhi "Smriti Puraskar" for Lokgeeti. In 1999 when the first bus between India and Bangladesh started its inaugural trip she was the chief cultural representative of India and the
main presenter of musical program throughout the journey. Interestingly among the
distinguished passengers were the former Prime Minister of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Shri Jyoti Basu the former chief Minister of West Bengal. She under
the directive of the President of India undertook research on Lokgeeti and awareness among
people & "Promotion & desamination of tribel folk art & culture".
Her cds and vcds have been widely reviewed and praised by music critics. In the year 2011 December she was performed in "Manikganj Utsav" (Bangladesh) as a lead singer from India. Her Programme has been inaugrated by novelist Dr. Amarta Sen. |
