Swadesh Ranjan Dutta was born in 1933. His father a freedom fighter was serving a sentence in jail as an accused involved in the Dalhousie bomb incident.
His Mother was Smt Satyarani Dutta. His early years were full of struggle in Jharnanipara village in Barisal district of Bangladesh. Later the family moved
to Kolkata under the care of relatives and from this city he completed his
graduation from Calcutta university.His interest in writing was right from his formative years. His stories, poems, rhymes and plays were published namely
Parichay, Chaturanga, Darpan, Uttarsari, desh and Amra Sobai. He also wrote
stories and poems for children under his name and pseudonym “Johuree”.
He was also an active member of the writers guild and with the assistance of friends created Kabita Granthagar.
Swadesh Ranjan Dutta with the support from Shri Bimal Roy Chowdhury and Ms Kabita Sinha’s planning and participation functioned as a joint editor of
Dainik Kobita. In 1965 he was awarded by the Central Government due to his efforts in the direction of elevating and creating a platform for neo-literates.
He had the experience of being an editor of a tri-monthly magazine Bangla Shreshtho Galpo for several years where young and upcoming poets like Tapan
Bandopadhyay and Nabakumar Basu made contributions. Shri Dutta retired from active service as a senior officer in the health department of Kolkata Municipal Corporation in 1992.
