About Us________________________________________________________

Open Arms Educational & Charitable Trust is registered. It is a Non-Profit, Non-Political, as well as a Non-Governmental Organization. Being secular in nature, it caters to people of all faiths, irrespective of religious beliefs, caste or class, with special emphasis on marginalized communities in the city and suburbs of Kolkata.

We envision our role as facilitators of parity, in areas of neglect, bias, gender discrimination and societal indifference and our commitment is to concentrate our energies and resources on not only bridging the socio-economical divide so blatantly conspicuous all around, but to work shoulder-to-shoulder with those we intend to serve and empower through education, vocational training and related provisions within the ambit of our field of influence, potential and resources

We began our journey about 15 years ago, with the primary objective being the free education of financially disadvantaged slum children. We later started a Bridge-School for drop-outs, to enable their integration back into mainstream education. We also initiated an Adult Literacy Programme for women and girls from local slums and No: 4 Bridge areas which proved to be quite a success story. Many other avenues have mushroomed around these early initiatives; like the formation of self-help groups, relief to victims of natural calamities and ethnic disturbances, mass marriages, medical assistance like monthly health check-ups for Sr. Citizens, cataract operations, vocational training etc. We currently havevocational training centres at Peter's Day School, Study Circle and one at Panikhali, Sunderban.

We have taken it upon ourselves to create employment opportunities by implementing courses like; Assistant Nurses Training, Barefoot Teachers Training, along with tailoring, zardozi and zari design training to women from backward communities, in addition to the above mentioned initiatives.

In our survey conducted in rural areas like Rupamari, Canning and Panikhali, we were inundated with requests for health and medical assistance. Therefore the entire proceeds and contributions of "Prothsahan 3" will go toward the procurement of a "Mobile Clinic" complete with modern medical equipment. The "Mobile Clinic" will travel with a practicing physician and professional medical assistants to service the health requirements in remote rural areas and other impoverished pockets of the city, free general medicines will also be given in accordance with stock at our disposal.

We are at present, involved in diverse and relevant social service activities pertaining to the requirements of our times. In fact, the character, aspirations and objectives of our organization has evolved in response to social and community demands. We are still a work in progress and evolving with the completion of every successful project.

We are committed to serve every need possible, with the same diligence, integrity and compassion as when we first began our journey, as our social relevance can only be measured by the lives we are able to impact and the difference we are able to make in the lives of those less fortunate than us.
