What causes Anal fissure?
|
- Trauma to the inner lining of the anus from passage of hard and dry stool.
- Acute or chronic diarrhea also cause trauma to the anal mucosal lining.
- Repeated childbirth may cause loss of support of the anal mucous membrane by a damaged pelvic floor.
- Infection in Anus.
- Inflammatory bowel diseases.
- Sexually transmitted diseases.
- Laxative abuse.
- Trauma due to abnormal anal stretching in anal coitus.

What are the symptoms of Anal fissure?

- Sharp cutting pain and burning sensation starts with the passage of stool. The pain may last for several minutes to a few hours.
- Streaks of blood in stool.
- Constipation.
- A small lump or skin tag on the perianal skin near the anal fissure. This is called sentinel tag or sentinel piles. This is more commonly seen in chronic condition.
- Mucus discharge.
- Anal itching (pruritus ani)
