What is Oesophageal Cancer?

The oesophagus is a 10 inch, hollow, muscular, long tube, which helps in the movement of food from the mouth to the stomach. This tube has a mucosal lining, a submucosa, a muscle tissue, an outer cell layer (adventitia) and a serous membrane tissue (serosa). The disease begins in the inner mucosal lining and progresses outward through the submucosa into the muscle tissues.
