This is a genetic disorder in which blood doesn’t clot properly leading to bleeding in different tissues, especially joints. This is inherited as an X-linked recessive disorder where males are sufferers while females are carriers. The genetic abnormality leads to deficiency of either Factor VIII(Haemophilia A) or Factor IX(Haemophilia B)in blood. Haemophilia A is much more common. Treatment is by replacing Factor VIII or IX in blood.
Von Willebrand’s Disease: This is another genetically transmitted disorder where blood doesn’t clot properly leading to bleeding in different tissues. It is caused by the deficiency of Von-Willebrand Factor in blood which is a protein helping in blood clotting.Unlike Haemophilia, Von Willebrand’s Disease affects males and females equally.
