How do you fix a twisted ovarian cyst?
Surgery is the primary approach to diagnosing and treating ovarian torsion. Preferential treatment options include detorsion, oophorectomy, or ovarian cystectomy. Adnexal torsion is most common in the reproductive age group but is not very common in postmenopausal women, with an incidence of about 2.7%
Is ovarian cyst surgery a major surgery?
Is ovarian cystectomy a major surgery? It depends on what type of surgery you have. If your surgeon can perform the procedure laparoscopically, it's minimally invasive and you'll likely return to your typical activities within two or three weeks. There are still risks to surgery, but they're low.
What is the complication of twisted ovarian cyst?
The ovary has a dual blood supply from ovarian arteries and uterine arteries. Twisting of these ligaments can lead to venous congestion, edema, compression of arteries, and, eventually, loss of blood supply to the ovary. This can cause a constellation of symptoms, including severe pain when blood supply is compromised.
