Discharge Guidelines

  Discharge Guidelines for Endoscopic Surgery

• Laparoscopy is generally an out patient procedure and can be discharged on the same day or next day.

• Shoulder pain from the carbon dioxide gas used during surgery and abdominal discomfort are common.

• Your throat may be sore from endotracheal tube.

• Pain may be felt at the incision site and fluid may leak from the incisions for a day. These discomforts usually diminish markedly after 2 days.

• Plan to avoid any activities that will require concentration for at least 2 days.

• One to two weeks rest is advisable after the surgery

• After one week, you can resume normal activity like walking, cooking, driving, sitting in front of the computers for 4-6 hrs etc.

• Intercourse, strenuous exercise, lifting of heavy weights, swimming etc, has to be avoided for a period of 2 weeks.

• You can continue your normal diet after the surgery.

• You can have daily bath in cold or warm water.

• Sitting in squatting position to be avoided for one month.

• Discharge or a little pain in the wound is common. In case of redness, increased pain or fever do inform us.

• It is common to have your menses a little early or late.

• You are advised to come for physical check up after one month of your surgery.





  Discharge Guidelines for Hysterectomy:

• Laparoscopic hysterectomy patients are discharged 48 hrs after surgery.

• Shoulder pain from the carbon dioxide gas used during surgery and abdominal discomfort are common.

• Your throat may be sore from endotracheal tube.

• Pain may be felt at the incision site and fluid may leak from the incisions for a day. These discomforts usually diminish markedly after 2 days.

• A small amount of vaginal bleeding is common between 10-14 days after the surgery. If you have excess bleeding do inform us or come for a check – up.

• Plan to avoid any activities that will require concentration for at least 2 days.

• Three to four weeks rest is advisable after the surgery.

• You may remain indoor for about a couple of weeks. After two weeks you may resume your normal activities like walking, climbing steps, supervise household works etc. Intercourse, strenuous exercise, lifting of heavy weights, swimming etc, has to be avoided for a period of 6 weeks.

• You can continue your normal diet after the surgery.

• You can have daily bath in cold or warm water.

• Sitting in squatting position to be avoided for one month.

• Discharge or a little pain in the wound is common. In case of redness, increased pain or fever, please inform us.
