We are following painless Hair Transplant techniques to ensure that patient can now benefit from pain-free surgery.
Preparation for Hair Transplantation
Patient is advised to take oral antibiotic 2 days before surgery & scalp is shampooed with Betadine solutions for 2 days. If there is any dandruff then Ketokonazole, Clotrimazole shampoo is given before 2 weeks of the surgery.
Area of scalp between 2 ears in the upper part is usually selected as donor area for hair transplantation. Width of which may vary from 1 – 1.5cm.
Hair in this area is trimmed and patient is asked to lie down prone. Local anaesthesia Xylocaine is given over this area for painless harvesting of hair. The donor area is closed by a special technique so that later hair grows through the scar so there will be no gap or scar line and the scar line is covered by hairs above and below.
The harvested hair bearing scalp is divided into small physiological unit pieces called hair follicles and each of them contains 1-4 hair roots on average. At this stage patient select future hair line at the begining of the harvesting procedure.
The recipient area or the area of baldness is similarly anesthetized by local anaesthesia. Multiple small slits are made using fine needles into which the grafts are given under microscopic magnifications.
No. of grafts depends on the area of the baldness or necessity of patient which may vary 300-3000 or more.
Total procedure takes 3-7 hrs. time. Patient is allowed to have small breaks during these long procedures between phases for tea, breakfast or lunch. It is a painless surgery as it is completely done under local anaesthesia. After the surgical procedure the area is kept open or a light surgical cap given to prevent dust. No bandage is used.
