Growth Cycle of Hairs -
The first hair growing stage called Anagen. During this phase cells in the hair root divide & make the hair shaft. That is long anagen phase means long hair, on an average monthly growth rate is ½ inch i.e. 1.25 cm per month. Following stage Catagen is a short period of 2-4 weeks and this is transitional phase. Dermal papilla blood circulation altered and shaft become loose. Next stage is Telogen, here hair doesn’t grow in length but remains attached with dermal papilla, after Telogen hair again insert into Anagen phase and the old hair falls and new hair starts growing.
On an average we have 1 lac hairs in our scalp normally 80-100 hairs may fall daily but also have seasonal variations. Pattern of hair fall differ for male & female this was described by Norwood in his classification.
